Strain Engineering Specialist
Designs the marketed therapeutic strains — and, under restricted control, the engineered programs.
Role Summary
The Strain Engineering Specialist designs the biology PANOPTICON sells and the biology it never names — the marketed therapeutic strains and gene-therapy vectors on the public side, and the engineered gain-of-function programs held under restricted authority on the other. The role runs vector design, expression tuning, and gene-drive work, certifies the marketed lines to the public quality bar, and keeps the restricted constructs sealed behind the vault and the two-person rule. Every line has a provenance certificate; not every line has a public name.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and tune therapeutic strains and gene-therapy vectors for stability, uptake, and durable expression on the marketed lines.
- Run restricted gain-of-function and gene-drive programs under logged, Director-authorized, two-person-rule access.
- Validate marketed constructs against the public quality bar and issue provenance certificates for the licensed channel.
- Route every engineered construct through biocontainment gating before any movement to the stockpile.
- Maintain lineage records, design history, and the cryo-vault founder registry.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing on vector output scheduled against coverage demand.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate training in molecular biology, genetic engineering, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of vector design, expression systems, and gene-drive biology.
- Disciplined containment and dual-use-research practice.
- Comfort holding a public line and a restricted construct in parallel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Gene-therapy or synthetic-biology background.
- Select-agent or gain-of-function program experience.
- Familiarity with the biobank and provenance pipeline.
